Building and Launching Courses: Understanding Course Development & Delivery

Course development and delivery in DigitalChalk follows a three-phase process: courses, course elements, and course offerings. This structured approach allows for efficient content creation and flexible delivery options for your students.

Course Creation

To begin creating a course:

1. Log in to your DigitalChalk account as a Course Administrator.

2. Navigate to the Create menu from the left navigation panel.

3. Click on “Courses” from the sublist of options.

4. Click the “Add Course” button.

5. Fill in the required fields, including:

  • Title
  • Instructor name
  • Passing grade
  • Delivery type
  • Visibility
  • Review period

Additional fields like descriptions and tags are optional but recommended to help students understand the course content and for easier course management.

Course Elements

After creating a course, the next step is to add course elements. Elements are the building blocks of your course content and can include various types of media and assessments. To add elements to your course:

1. From the Courses list, click on the title of your course.

2. Select “Elements” from the course management page.

3. Click “Add Element” to choose from various element types, such as:

  • Chalkboard (for video, audio, and slide content)
  • Test
  • File
  • Assignment
  • Web Archive
  • Learning Package (SCORM, AICC, xAPI, Web Archive, PPT)
  • Survey
  • Instructor-Led Session
  • Certificate, and more

You can add as many elements as needed to create a comprehensive learning experience.

Course Offerings

The final step in course development is creating a course offering. This allows you to make your course available to students and set specific registration criteria. To create a course offering:

1. Go to the Create menu and select “Offerings.”

2. Click “Add Offering.”

3. Choose the course you want to offer.

4. Set up registration details such as:

  • Pricing (if applicable)
  • Dates of delivery (after initial offering creation)
  • Registration limits(after initial offering creation)

**Course Offerings: Remember that your course will not appear in the catalog until you create an offering for it.

By understanding this three-phase process of course development and delivery, you can efficiently create, organize, and launch your courses in DigitalChalk. This structured approach allows for flexibility in content creation and delivery, ensuring a smooth learning experience for your students.
