Building and Launching Courses: Media Library
The Media Library in DigitalChalk is where you can manage media files for your courses. To access, expand the Create menu and click “Media Library.”

From here, you can upload new media files, choose existing files, or manage your media content for the chalkboard, see in which courses each piece of content is being used, add and manage new versions of your media and even preview the media you have uploaded there.
Certificate
You can award customized certificates based on completion of a course element or on overall completion of all required elements in a course
- From the Elements page, click “Add Element,” then select “Certificate.”
- Enter a title for your survey, select your completion criteria, and click “Save.”
- There is a default certificate background available in all certificate elements, but you can easily replace it with your own image by clicking “Upload Background Image” and uploading an image file (.jpeg or .png recommended)
- You can add context dependent data fields on top of the certificate image by clicking “Add Field” and selecting the desired information. Common selections are student name, offering title, date completion, among many other available options, including custom user fields
- You can also click and drag the fields you add to different positions on the certificate. You can preview your certificate with the Preview button.
- Once you are happy with the info and look of your certificate, make sure to click “Save.”
Instructor Led (ILT)
- If you host a live session or webinar as part of your course, you can use the Instructor-Led element to host and track attendance.
- There are 2 different kinds of ILTs: Sessions that use webinar integration or Custom Sessions
Webinar-integrated ILT
- For sessions that use webinar integration, you can use platforms like Zoom or GoToMeeting
- Make sure you have the integration allowed (see Integrations)
- AND have connected your DC admin account with your Zoom account (ex.).
- When setting up your ILT, click the dropdown next to the Provider heading and select your preferred webinar platform, and it will create the meeting for you and place a link to launch the session within the course element for students to easily click to launch.
Custom ILT
- Custom Sessions are simple to create: just create an element for your ILT, enter location and instructor information, and select your begin and end date/time, and click Save
Video
The video element is the backbone of content delivery.
- From the Elements page, click “Add Element” and select “Video.”
- Give your video element a name, and click “Save.”
- Upload your video content directly to the element (ex. mp4 file), and wait for the video to encode. This may take a few moments depending on the length of the content as DigitalChalk encodes the video multiple times to ensure the best quality experience over a variety of internet connections.
- You can toggle between allowing users to seek past their progress in the video, and/or if you want to allow variable playback speeds for the content
- If you have caption file(s) for the video, you can click the name of the uploaded video from the Content page, then click Captions to upload the caption file (recommend WebVTT file type)
- Establish Chapters for your content so that students can skip back to particular sections of a video from the Chapters page.
