Creating courses is the foundation of your learning management system in DigitalChalk. This process involves setting up the basic structure and parameters for your educational content. Here’s how to get started with creating courses:

Accessing Course Creation

To begin creating a course:

1. Log in to your DigitalChalk account as a Course Administrator.

2. Navigate to the Create menu from the left navigation panel.

3. Click on “Courses” from the sublist of options.

4. Click the “Add Course” button.

Essential Course Information

When creating a new course, you’ll need to provide the following required information:

  • Title: Choose a clear, descriptive name for your course.
  • Instructor name: Assign an instructor to the course.
  • Passing grade: Set the minimum score required to pass the course.
  • Delivery type: Determine how course content will be made available to students.
  • Visibility: Choose whether elements are visible to students from the start or sync with availability.
  • Review period: Decide if students can review completed elements after finishing the course.

Additional Course Details

While not required, it’s recommended to include:

  • Tags: Add keywords to help categorize and search for the course easily.

Delivery Type Options

The delivery type setting controls when students can access course elements:

  • One Element at a Time (Default): Students access content after completing all previous required elements.
  • One section at a time: Content is released sequentially.
  • All Elements at Once: All course content is accessible from the start.
  • Calendar-Based: Elements become available after a specified duration.

Visibility and Review Settings

  • Visibility: Choose between making elements visible from the start or syncing visibility with availability.
  • Review period: Determine if students can review completed elements after finishing the course.

Saving and Managing Courses

After entering the necessary information:

1. Click the “Save” button to create your course.

2. The new course will appear at the bottom of your Courses list.

3. You can edit course details or perform other actions by clicking the three dots next to the course name.

Remember, creating a course is just the first step. You’ll need to add course elements and create a course offering to make it available to students. These steps will be covered in subsequent sections of this guide.
